Tourism-cultural development in the internal areas: the Marche Apennines after the earthquake of 2016-2017
Sviluppo turistico-culturale nelle aree interne: l’Appennino marchigiano dopo il sisma del 2016-2017
Abstract
The article deals with “tourist and cultural development in the internal areas: the Apennines of Marche after the earthquake of 2016-2017”, placing the theme in the economic, social and territorial framework discussed by the authors. On the same line, the Strategic Plan for Tourism 2017-2022 (MiBACT, 2017) focused attention on the need to support emerging destinations such as parks and protected areas, mountain, rural and internal in order to reduce excessive concentration of tourist flows towards the main national destinations. The following reflections have matured in the context of the interdisciplinary project “New development paths for the internal areas of the Apennines Marchigiano. Unioncamere data on active enterprises also show an expansion of housing and catering sectors in the period 2012-2016 (Cerquetti et al., 2019), confirming the picture, tendingly growing, on the tourist offer in the period before the earthquake. The decline in arrivals began in 2016, despite the first shock occurred on August 24, at the end of the summer season. Conclusive considerations In the perspective of integrated and sustainable development, the areas affected by the earthquake are called to make pivot on their own distinctive identities, enhancing historical heritage and specific natural conditions.
