Abstract

The work examines "Urban regeneration and innovation in a transitional territory: the case of Porto Marghera", bringing in relation the territorial dimension with the relevant economic and institutional aspects. First, Porto Marghera is an area where production sectors, institutional levels and forms of power overlap, both in public and private sectors, with different and often contrasting objectives and scales of action. Some interventions have tried to limit the intersections between the traffic of heavy means, that transport the goods in and out from the port, with the traffic of the city. In a different way, we recognize some exemplary experiences of urban regeneration through social, technological and spatial innovation, which constitute case studies useful for future urban policies and elements to be taken into account for subsequent urban developments. A second case is the transformation of the use of an industrial building, a precious example of engineering and industrial archaeology that from unused cooling tower has been transformed into 'Venice Heritage Tower', exhibition space, auditorium, service center to the enterprises, belvedere on Porto Marghera.
