New high-tech companies in Italy
Le nuove imprese ad alta tecnologia in Italia
Abstract
The contribution analyses "The new high-tech enterprises in Italy", with attention to the context, the reading tools and the implications for policies. Scholars of the phenomenon have long proved that promoting the birth of new enterprises ‘tout court’, i.e. without paying attention to their characteristics, is ineffective compared to the employment impact (Fritsch & Mueller, 2007) 2. The number of university spin-offs each year has grown steadily at about a hundred per year (Ramaciotti & Daniele, 2016). Overall, there are at present about 1200 active spin-offs, which involved an average of 5 people on initiative, among teachers, researchers and new graduates (Iacobucci, Micozzi, & Micucci, 2013) 3. Anomaly is not so much in the percentage of companies that does not grow, physiological being innovative enterprises, and the fact that they continue to remain active. The second feature is the small number of companies that manage to achieve high levels of revenues in a few years. According to the data Movimprese in 2015 approximately 370 thousand companies were started in Italy, about 100 thousand belonging to the high and medium technology sectors.
