Socio-economic indicators for measuring the well-being of municipalities
Indicatori socio-economici per la misurazione del benessere dei comuni
Abstract
The article deals with “Socio-economic indicators for measuring the welfare of municipalities”, placing the theme in the economic, social and territorial framework discussed by the authors. This combination can be obtained by applying methodologies known as composite indexes (Salzman, 2003; Mazziotta and Pareto, 2011; Diamantopoulos et al., 2008). The theoretical framework that led the selection of the six elementary indicators is that of the BES and the starting matrix has 8,048 rows (commun) and 6 columns (elementary indicators). Direct surveys, administrative archives and indicators Since 2021, the population census and the family master sample will provide many indicators each year at the municipal level. In order to synthesize elementary indicators in one measure, a composite index (AMPI) is applied, which is the official methodology adopted by Istat for the BES project (Mazziotta e Pareto, 2016). And at the bottom one of the objectives of the paper is precisely to demonstrate this, that is the goodness of the elementary indicators derived from administrative archives. The indicators “Severa material deprivation” and “Very low working intensity” are two of the three components of the poverty indicator and social exclusion of “Europe 2020” (Eurostat, 2017).
