Territorial spillovers of research: the case of the University of Salento
Le ricadute territoriali della ricerca: il caso dell’Università del Salento
Abstract
The article deals with “The territorial relapses of research: the case of the University of Salento”, placing the theme in the economic, social and territorial framework discussed by the authors. However, we believe that a public university cannot abdicate to the third mission that the most recent instances in the evolutionary field are expected. In addition, taking into account the geographical objectives of this work, the survey on the accounts (1) also reveals where these beneficiaries exploit research, know-how or simple knowledge acquired by the university. Coherently with theoretical premises, we used all the data collected to realize a matrix with the 1,591 contracts signed by the various structures of the University of Salento between 2008 and 2012 and we have attributed a value of service to the entire amount of performance equal to 100. The processing of the data collected allows us to affirm that much of the research (and related activities) commissioned to the University of Salento has remained in the territory of reference of the University. However, if we look at the simple number of contracts signed, France (with 40 orders), Holland (35), Sweden (21), Spain (16) and Austria (14) far precede the German position (5 orders).
