Digital uses and recomposition of family sociabilities
Usages numériques et recomposition des sociabilités familiales
Abstract
This demonstration article examines the recomposition of family sociabilities by digital uses from a sociological reading centered on multigenerational households with diversified equipment and habits. The article seeks to understand how parents, teenagers, grandparents and geographically distant relatives organize instant messaging, video calls, content sharing and coordination of domestic activities, while their conduct is crossed by permanent availability and the right to disconnect. The approach is based on a fully simulated qualitative corpus, built solely to test the editorial layout of the journal; it combines fictional interviews, observation scenes and imaginary institutional documents. The analysis highlights the role of digital skills, equipment, confidence and ability to negotiate rules of use, as well as the effect of age differences, technical mastery, cultural capital and access to a stable connection. It shows that these practices cannot be reduced to individual decisions: they also depend on the rules, relationships and meanings produced in the action. The illustrative results point to an increased relational proximity but crossed by new forms of control. They invite us to consider digital mediation that combines technical skills, autonomy and privacy protection. The article concludes that the study of ordinary arrangements makes it possible to better grasp the negotiated border between family space, personal space and digital public space. The text has no empirical pretension and is exclusively a synthetic content intended to test the template, length, title hierarchy and reference system of the journal.
