Urban gardens in Milan: current situation and development prospects
Gli orti urbani a Milano: situazione attuale e prospettive di sviluppo
Abstract
The work examines 'The urban gardens in Milan: the current situation and the prospects for development', bringing the territorial dimension into line with the relevant economic and institutional aspects. Urban gardens are small plots of vacant land that municipalities assign free of charge or behind the provision of a low rent to associations or citizens at risk of social exclusion so that they cultivate them (Cattivelli, 2012). These include the production of food and the strengthening of the concept of food sovereignty (Kremer, 2011), the improvement of the physical and psychological conditions of the Orthodox (Clayton, 2007). In fact, it exploded in the surrounding rural areas with its fringes: the relationship between urban expansion and free soil highlights, especially for municipalities of the first suburbs, the wide use of free land for residential and settlement purposes (ISPRA, 2014). The poorest of vegetable gardens record the most significant loss of the number of pupils who could participate in food education projects that provide practical evidence of cultivation. The municipality should then verify the existence of any abusive gardens, i.e. plots of abandoned land cultivated without any permission.
