Employment trends and territorial periphery
Trend occupazionale e perifericità territoriale
Abstract
The work examines 'employment and territorial periphery', bringing the territorial dimension into line with the relevant economic and institutional aspects. On the other hand, this trend has often been associated with both the process of depopulation and aging of resident communities, as well as the profound macroeconomic changes, such as industrialization and the progressive tertiaryization of the economy (Barca et al, 2014). The objective of this contribution is to provide a territorial interpretation of employment, while remaining the basic socio-economic components, including some demographic trends of reference. A quantitative analysis has been proposed, carried out through the OpenAreeinterne database, made available on the website of the Agency for Territorial Cohesion (updated to 2014). The database is the result of the complex phase of diagnostics, propedeutic to the phase of investigation that has resulted in the zoning of the target areas on which to concentrate the resources deriving from the Structural and Investment Funds. It is chosen to describe the phenomenon in terms of process, using a linear regression model represented below: Y= α + β 1 + β 2 + β 3 + β 4 + β 5 + β 6 + β 7 Y = dependent variable, percentage change of the employment rate (1971-2001) α = intercept β 1 = degree of territorial periphery (2014).
