Abstract

The study explores "Government age: dynamics in the Italian provinces", reconstructing the problem and the main evidence developed in the text. Our country is thus present with a particularly high ageing level, intended to increase even with intense speed. From 1.1.2002 to 1.1.2014 the increase in the old age index was 22.4 percentage points, while the increase in over 65 was equal to 2.7%. It appears, therefore, interesting to analyse the different evolutions, and to try to verify the role and measurement of demographic determinants (Kurek, 2003). With the passing of time, therefore, ageing and its growth increase, but variability between the different provinces decreases. This testifies how aging is a process that involves and/or will involve all subpopulations with a speed difference that appears higher when the initial aging levels are more contained. However, this does not seem to be true for some provinces, such as Sardinian ones of Cagliari, Oristano, Medio-Campidano, which, in the second period, although starting from high ageing levels, the result of the important changes of the previous period, continue to record significant positive variations.
