Abstract

The contribution analyses "vertical integration in ski resorts: a response to change", with attention to context, reading tools and policy implications. In particular, it would be possible to develop virtuous policies by integrating into the valley by the most important economic agent of the resorts, therefore the manager of the ski lifts. In other words, it could be a better incentive for holiday consumption even far from the biggest holidays and weekends and for periods above the current “long weekend” by being able to use an integrated lever of discounts for accommodation and ski-pass. A further advantage of revenue management would be the possibility of rewarding those who book in advance using important discounts, as it is currently buying the seasonal ski pass in October. This increase in services in residential structures would allow to apply higher prices and would allow to support the tourist offer even in case of closures of the slopes linked to bad weather. In fact, by reducing the number of stakeholders and enhancing the strongest local actor, it would be possible to develop faster, both the decision-making and implementation phase, new tourist approaches.
